I recently came across this piece of cloth at home in Switzerland and for some reason, it immediately caught my eye. I’m just completely in love with this pastel-powdered pink. Naturally, I asked my grandmother where she got it from and it turned out that it belonged to her mother; apparently it’s a typical Damascene (from Damascus, Syria) workmanship called ”aghabani” that was made in the early 20th century. My grandmother told me that it was used it as “boukjah” to wrap and protect soaps, undergarments and towels when her mother was getting married… I always ask for any family anecdotes because I think it’s important to know as much information as possible on your genealogy. And I’m a sucker for nostalgia so there you go. You can be sure I’ll be on the lookout for any family antique ;-)
