A BLAST FROM THE PAST.

Well, well, look what we have here. Believe it or not, I found this March 1999 issue of Vogue Paris at home in Switzerland by pure chance a couple of months ago. It was floating aimlessly among the likes of Edward Said and art history books when I rescued it. Now, fictional drama aside, you can imagine my enthusiasm when I saw the cover model and the credits that accompanied the editorial she starred in. This Haute Couture story, translated as ‘Simple Excess’ is a pure delight for the eyes. Mario and Carine never fail to produce magic images; these can easily look like stills from an independent remake of Snow White (you know, that scene when she gets lost in the woods. Ah!). Channelled minimalism right before the millenium is always a classic look; you could tell the clothes were about quality and cut. Pure and simple. I always love to look back at Carine’s work before she came to edit Vogue Paris in February 2001 (US Vogue contributor Joan Juliet Buck was her predecessor). I hope I get to rescue more of these treasured issues in the near future…
